A6 Treatise Paper Common Feedback

Thanks for your assignments!  Most of you have done a wonderful job and are able demonstrate clear understandings on the topic of distance education.  Here are some general feedback comments for your future reference.  Be sure to consider these comments and apply them to future assignments, failure to meet the requirements may result in a grade deduction in the future assignments.  The skills of writing research and/or opinion papers are very important graduate students.  It demonstrates our skills and knowledge in logical thinking.

  1. Besides summarizing the chapters you read, it is important to use your word to describe the concepts you learn.  Avoid outlining the textbook.
  2. Synthesize the ideas from required readings additional to the textbook readings.
  3. Use various literatures to support your points, ideas, and arguments.
  4. Avoid over citing the same literature, such as textbook, even it is important one.  Apply different literature to support your arguments and ideas.
  5. I encourage you to read the literatures cited in the textbooks.
  6. If you would like to cite the literatures cited in the textbook but you did not read it.  You can cite them as secondary citations.
  7. Always include Delicious link for your references and recourses for the assignments.
  8. Avoid one-sentence paragraph since the logical reasoning doesn't flow.

Right Understanding on Construction/Constructivism instructional strategies

After reviewing your unit proposals, I noticed that many were unclear with Construction/Constructivism instructional strategies. Below are a few notes to help you to clarify your understanding to apply right Construction/Constructivism instructional strategies to support your unit

·      When integrating social tagging to support your ONLE, it is necessary to design an effective social tagging architecture toguide your learners to tag their learning resources.  See ETC677 Social Tagging Architecture at: http://etc677nau.wetpaint.com/page/Tagging+Architecture

·      Confused by Content; Delivery Technology; and Instructional strategies: Many intend to instruct your fellow teachers Google Docs or Web 2.0 technology to support their classroom teaching.  In this case:

o   Content: How to integrate Google Docs or Web 2.0 technologies to support teaching.

o   Delivery technology: Any CMS/LMS tools: discussion boards; Chat room; Web pages; or using Google Docs or Web 2.0 tools

o   Instructional strategies: Online learner-learner interaction; Online resources, Online collaboration; online student publishing etc.

o   Evaluations: We must evaluate all three components:

§  Content: Assess whether your audiences learn the content (integrating Google Docs or Web 2.0 tools)

§  Delivery technology: Assess whether the integrated online technology (CMS/LMS) is effective. Are online discussion boards effective?

§  Instructional strategies: Assess whether the integrated online instructional strategies effective.  Is learner-learner interaction integrated effectively?

·      Rationale: The rationale to integrate distributed/online learning to support your unit should go beyond because online technology and online learning are convenient. In this case, we only justify it from online delivery technology aspect.  We should justify it from online construction/constructivist instructional strategy aspect aswell, such as learner-learner interaction, online resources, online collaboration etc.
