Common Feedback for Assignment 4 Diversity Research Paper

Thanks for your assignments!  Most of you have done a wonderful job and are able demonstrate clear understandings on diversity issues.  Here are some general feedback comments for your future reference.  Be sure to consider these comments and apply them to future assignments, failure to meet the requirements may result in a grade deduction in the future assignments.

Reflections: It is important to include your own reflections in your paper.
Quotes: The most common mistakes that I have seen are that students copy directly from the original papers or the abstract or use too many directs quotes.  These errors prevent the text from flowing smoothly and prevent it from making sense, providing evidence that the author did not digest the content and obtain a comprehensive understanding of the literature.
Research-based: After reviewing the literature in diversity issues and distributed learning, you may find that generally a superior quality of papers are found in refereed journals versus online articles, conference presentation papers and proceedings.  Students are encouraged to obtain papers from referred journal papers as opposed to conference presentations or papers, if possible.
APA: Follow the APA style format.
Title Page: A cover page for the assignment is not necessary.
Page Numbers: Each page should be numbered except the first page.
First/Second Pronoun: Avoid using the first person pronoun.  Not all scholars agree with this argument but people agree that unless we have good reasons to use first pronoun, otherwise, we should avoid using it for research paper.
One-sentence Paragraph: Avoid one sentence paragraph because the logical reasoning doesn't flow.
In-text Citation: In-text citation should be "...learning (Johnson, 2008)." Not "… learning. (Johnson, 2008)" Notice there the "." locates.
Cite what you read: Only cite the literatures that you actually read it.  If you did not read the article, books, chapters etc. Do not cite it because it is considered as plagiarism.
DL Focus: Many did not clearly identify the issues in "distributed learning" context rather than in fairly general technology integration context.
Writing Papers resources
Resources shared by students: http://delicious.com/tag/etc677+diversity+assignment

Here are a few questions for you to deepen your thoughts in online interaction research.

Do you believe there one ideal and effective instructions suite for various typed of online learners their uniqueness? Are we able to provide multiple instructions to suite for different learners?
Any critical issues to be concerned when online materials comply with ADA?
How could we resolve rural and urban differences?  Do they learn differently?
Is online learning more effective for adult learners?
Is technology neutral to all online learners?
Can mobile learning resolve digital divide in distributed learning?

Benson, Arizona is located in Cochise County, with an elevation of 3,575 feet. It is a thriving community approximately 45 miles east of Tucson. It its early history, Benson was an important shipping point for mines to the south. It was founded as a rail terminal for the area, and still serves as such. According to 2006 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 4,934. The city was founded in 1880 when the Southern Pacific Railroad came through. It was named after Judge William B. Benson, a friend of Charles Crocker, president of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The Southern Pacific, coming overland from California, chose the Benson site to cross the San Pedro River. Benson then served as a rail junction point to obtain ore and refined metal by wagon, in turn shipping rail freight back to the mines at Tombstone, Fairbank, Contention and Bisbee. For example, the railhead in Benson was about 25 miles from Tombstone, and was the closest rail connection to it until 1882, when a feeder line was laid from Benson to Contention City.

The railhead in Benson was founded about a mile from an older traditional wagon depot, the San Pedro River Station, run since 1871 by William Ohnesorgen. In 1878 he had erected a toll bridge over which mining supplies were transported to the new mining camps such as Fairbank and Tombstone. Two years later this bridge marked the location of the railroad bridge that became the terminal site of Benson. The city today is perhaps best known as the gateway to Kartchner Caverns State Park.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 4,711 people, 2,084 households, and 1,346 families residing in the city. The population density was 131.9 people per square mile (50.9/km²). There were 2,084 households out of which 18.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.72.

In the city the population was 19.5% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 18.0% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 29.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 50 years.
