Common Feedback for A 4 Diversity Research Paper

Thanks for your assignments!  Most of you have done a wonderful job and are able demonstrate clear understandings on diversity issues.  Here are some general feedback comments for your future reference.  Be sure to consider these comments and apply them to future assignments, failure to meet the requirements may result in a grade deduction in the future assignments.

  • Reflections: It is important to include your own reflections in your paper.
  • Quotes: The most common mistakes that I have seen are that students copy directly from the original papers or the abstract or use too many directs quotes.  These errors prevent the text from flowing smoothly and prevent it from making sense, providing evidence that the author did not digest the content and obtain a comprehensive understanding of the literature.
  • Research-based: After reviewing the literature in diversity issues and distributed learning, you may find that generally a superior quality of papers are found in refereed journals versus online articles, conference presentation papers and proceedings.  Students are encouraged to obtain papers from referred journal papers as opposed to conference presentations or papers, if possible.
  • APA: Follow the APA style format.
  • Title Page: A cover page for the assignment is not necessary.
  • Page Numbers: Each page should be numbered except the first page.
  • First/Second Pronoun: Avoid using the first person pronoun.  Not all scholars agree with this argument but people agree that unless we have good reasons to use first pronoun, otherwise, we should avoid using it for research paper.
  • One-sentence Paragraph: Avoid one sentence paragraph because the logical reasoning doesn’t flow.
  • In-text Citation: In-text citation should be “...learning (Johnson, 2008).” Not “… learning. (Johnson, 2008)” Notice there the “.” locates.
  • Cite what you read: Only cite the literatures that you actually read it.  If you did not read the article, books, chapters etc. Do not cite it because it is considered as plagiarism.
  • DL Focus: Many did not clearly identify the issues in “distributed learning” context rather than in fairly general technology integration context.
