Common Feedback for Assignment 2 LMS/CMS

This is a very important assignment because it provides us opportunity to understand the features, tools, strengths, and weaknesses ofeach CMS/LMS.  How comprehensive our understanding on them would have major impacts on our final project unit.

Below is some suggestions/information for you to improve your paper.

  • Q: Can I select different CMS/LMS after I completed assignment 2?
  • A: Yes, throughout the semester, you may gain better understanding on different systems.  Be sure you have "comprehensive" understanding on the system you intend to use for your final project.
  • Distributed learning (Unit) is not about CMS/LMS.  Simply using them doesn't mean we are designing distributed learning environments.  It is about integrating "tools/technologies" and "instructional strategies/pedagogies."  What are distributed learning instructional strategies?  Many our course activities are the examples of distributed learning strategies, such as lesson discussion moderations with guidelines/instructions, Jigsaw instruction for Treatise paper with guidelines/instructions, Peer Evaluation on Treatise paper and final project unit etc.
  • Q: Do I have to use CMS/LMS to deliver our final unit?
  • A: Yes, we must select a CMS/LMS to design and develop our final unit.
  • Q: Can I develop DL unit for classroom integration?
  • A: No, your final unit should be an online professional development or any online instructions for adults.
  • "Accessibility" is not about how easy or open to access course materials.  Accessibility refers to web page information/content being obtainable and functional to people with disabilities. It is about providing access to information for those who would otherwise lose their opportunity to use the web. • Student publishing: Submitting assignment is not necessary considered as student publishing.  Online student publishing is referred to students submit their work online and their work can be shared/viewed by their peers or others etc.
  • When we evaluate the three systems you selected, it is important for us to compare and contrast their features, strengths, and weakness.
  • If you decide to select Moodle to deliver your final DL unit, please contact me so I can create a Moodle shell for you on College of Education's Moodle server.  You can start exploring it more and learning how to manage your Moodle unit shell.
  • New CMS frequently have new technologies features, such as RSS, tagging, linking to Web 2.0 tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Google Calendar etc.  Do not overlook these features when you integrate the CMS to deliver your unit.
